Water Pump Failure
2004 Alpine Coach 36FDDS
The water pump quit and the System Monitor Panel light also quit operating. Flipping the pump switch in the toilet area or at the monitor panel does not activate the pump light (or) pump.
I see others have had pump failures but with the System Monitor Panel still operating Trouble shooting sequence suggestions appreciated. Thanks

welcome to iRV2 rollng along
Check your fuses then check for power to the pump.

If the monitor panel is dead ... that sounds like a fuse. The fuse is an auto type fuse and you’ll find the fuse blocks for those in the lower right side of the bathroom cabinet.

A question more than an answer-- I just don't remember.
Is there not a RELAY between the switches and pump??? If so, that is sure where I would check after checking the fuse.

...not sure when WRV went from 3-way switches in daisy-chain to a multi-switch relay at the pump--could be by 2004 but not 2003...prior to using the relay, these three-way switches, thin gauge wire, and longer wire runs in some models killed a lot of fresh water pumps due to low voltage....if panel is out too, check for a small 3 or 5 amp fuse in bathroom 12v fuse panel.....

The first thing I would check is the inline fuse at the pump. I had mine break twice before I replaced it with a blade style fuse.

Water Pump Failure
I think that all Alpines thru 2007 were built using the three way switch only, no relay. My early build 2008 had the three way switch only. I added a relay to insure full voltage to the pump. I am not sure but later 2008 and 2009 Alpines may have a relay.

My 2005 still has a 3 way switch. Definitely check the fuse. With that said, our 3rd trip ended up requiring a new water pump. Not too bad, around $200 and a 20 minute uninstall/reinstall.

Also try to run the pump directly with an independent power source. That's what I did and found that it worked so I searched for the relay which I found in the battery bay and discovered that the pins were loose in the socket. I twisted the pins slightly so they fit tighter in the socket and the issue was cured.

Good input Todd, I installed an after market relay on my 2003 and used the old OEM switches to activate it. I grabbed clean 12v power from the power cord reel [added in-line fuse] as it was handy and unlikely you would be using both pump and reel at the same time....

Why the need for the relay? Just trying to better understand the methodology.
Thanks in advance!

…..its electrical stuff--small switches, thin gauge wire, and long wire runs all contribute to increased resistance. Ohm's Law or some other famous old person determined that increased resistance, increases amps, and lowers volts [think old camp ground wiring on a hot summer day].....most electric motors don't like low voltage and tend to overheat...so you use a relay triggered by the low voltage OEM switch wiring to activate nice, clean 12v power thru the relay, feed from the fuse block or in my case the power cord reel, to power the pump....

Ahh, now I see. Wonder if that’s what happened to mine...

EASY to determine.
With your digital voltmeter, check voltage at the house battery. Check again at the pump with it running. Verify voltage drop.
A relay is a cheap (under $10) way of minimizing voltage drop and maximizing switch and pump life.
If more than one switch to turn on pump, suspect you do have a relay.
