1999 tradewinds 7370 genrator swap ?

so who has dumped their generiac for a ONAN , I want to do diesel , but it is 200lb more and 6" taller and longer , I think it would fit , the only problem I see is the A/C hoses and maybe the weight

the 6.5kw LP one is the same height , but the LxW is about the same

So you want to go from a LP Generac to a Onan diesel? Never had a diesel generator, but I've had and still have both Generac and Onan generators. I prefer the Generac myself, I have a 6600 that was LP and I converted it to gas, that I use as a backup for my home. I've had to use it 3 times in the last year. The coach I bought March 1st has a 5500 Onan gold in it and it does OK but it only has 135 hours on it. My Challenger had a 7000 Generac and it had over 2100 hours on it and it ran great. Onan is just too proud of their parts, cost almost double.

my np-66 has quit again , it turns over , but will not fire and generac does not make RV versions anymore , so that is why I was asking about the onan

why not just fix it, I would think the thousands a replacement generator would cost would not be worth the little down time you may gain, my NP66G Generac was smashed from front end collision, I repaired broken oil lines, moved the oil filter housing, fixed broken propane regulator and lines, and did air cleaner repairs and it still only took about 200$ and a little patience. I also had to remove the generator from the coach because the oil fill neck had a broken fitting where it enters the block ($0.73) part. but now it runs flawless, I did have to remove the propane line once from the tank to the generator and blow it out as I believe it was plugging the regulator, but simply blowing backwards once I pulled the line off both ends fixed it and it will run all the systems on my tradewinds. an Onan diesel would be my first choice obviously but without spending a fortune I am just dealing the hand I was dealt. good luck and keep us posted.

I am going to try to get the generac fixed , but still would like to know if anyone has put a onan in their tradewinds

the way you have to access it for service makes it difficult

Since the Onan QD 7500 was an option I would think just go to a RV junk yard and get the mounts. My 7373 has a QD7500. If I was to install one I would think about putting it on a slide for easier service. Mine is fixed.

Due to the frame style on my freightliner, there is a serious support crossmember in front of the generator that i would be fearful of removing in order to instal a slide for the generator. I understand your frustration but without some serious engineering i dont think it is possible
