2003 National Tradewinds

I just purchased a 2003 National Tradewinds, and the steps do not stay retracted when I place the panel switch either way. Every time when I close or open door the stairs will retract with switch in either position. Anyone can help?

My first guess would be to check the wiring in the step itself, then check the switch. I have had several of those rocker switches die of old age.

My 2003 has switch to stay extended! One position steps stay extended when door is opened and closed. Other position steps extend and retract every time door is opened and closed.

Mine doesn't matter, both positions the stairs close when my door is open or closed. Someone mention could be a the switch so will be checking that first. Thanks for the reply and help.

My switch will either let the step extend and retract each time the door is opened and closed or it will let them stay out all the time.
I normally just leave them out permanently knowing the ignition switch will bring them in as soon as I start the engine.

steps

Check the door switch. sound more like your rocker switch on the panel is bad. I had the door switch go bad. the step would extend with the door closed. The magnet in the door had come loose and would not activate the switch. I taped a fridge magnet over the door frame portion and it kept the steps in till I got home and was able to get a new switch. only needed the new magnet to get it working.

Following! We have the same issue with our 04 Sea Breeze. My current solution currently is to crawl under each time we camp and unplug the wiring harness.

If you find a solution, please let me know! I will do the same if I find one!

Are the steps in question ; Kwikee ; there are three fuses in the Kwikee system that need to be located and tested as well as the switch operation.

I have an 02 Tradewinds and thought I had same problem.

Of all things... It's your ignition switch. BY DESIGN, your ignition switch has two "off" positions where you can remove the key. One of those two positions allows the step to stay out, the other does not.

So you have to have BOTH the step toggle switch by the door in the right position AND the ignition switch in the right off position for the steps to remain extended.
