2004 Onan 7.5 diesel generator will not stay running.

My 2004 Onan 7.5 diesel generator will not stay running. Found pieces of magnet stuck to metal parts in filter housing. I have read that this could be a magnet that became disconnected from the rotor? Will this cause the generator engine to not stay running?

Yes. Unfortunately if you found pieces of a magnet than it came from the rotor/stator. This is a very expensive repair. You might have better luck at this point finding a used unit or deciding if one of the new portable inverter generators will work for your situation.
