98 Dolphin Generac Fuel Filter Problem

I have a 98 Dolphin with a Generac Q55. I want to change the fuel filter but the only one listed won't fit.

The 87769 inlet is too small and the thread end is too large. The thread end turns about a full turn then stops. I'm afraid I'll strip it by forcing it any further. I can't find any other options or part numbers.

See pics. The 87769 is on the left. I cannot see any markings on the old one.

Help!

I believe I bought my filter at O'reilly Auto.. Try taking the old one into a parts store to match it up.. I fully agree on not forcing it in, no telling what you could break.

Any idea of the part number? The O'Reilly site won't let me look through them without entering a vehicle.

I bought the PM kit for mine here Generac Preventative Maintenance Kit Generac RV (530) 0H0839 - Norwall PowerSystems comes with both air filters, oil filter, two spark plugs, and fuel filter P/N 87769 fit mine fine. The threaded end about 1/4" and the hose end is about the same size.

What you need is a Wix 33046 filter.

Yes, that's the correct one. I use Wix filters all the time never thought about checking there.

I bought the 33046 and that is not it either. I bought a NAPA 3046.

The inlet side is correct but the outlet won't thread all the way-the same problem I had with the 87769.

Should I force it? I am worried about stripping the thread. Do you think this is threaded far enough?

Is it just hand tight at that point or did you already wrench tight it? I looked at mine and it is threaded in about the same as yours. I have a spare filter, has no P/N on it. If it is already wrench tight I would try it see it it leaks.

It is a taper thread. If the start diameter and thread pitch match up, go for it. Wrench tighten snug. Doesn't require much to seal as there is no pressure at this point.... it is a suction line.

That is hand tight.

I'll tighten with a wrench and try it.

The old one screws in easily and all the way.

Mine has a 3/16" to 1/4" gap as Capt. Flipper said doesn't have to be super tight just snug as long as it doesn't leak.

I don't see why you are changing fuel filters. The pipe that goes into the tank only goes about half way down and will never plug up. If it makes you feel better, just blow the filter out backwards and reinstall it. The filter for my Onan costs about 20 clams and I will never buy one. I looked at it after 100 hours and there was nothing in it. Onan takes a special filter and you cannot buy one in a parts store.

That worked!

I still have a gap but it doesn't leak and runs fine.

Thanks for all the help.
