'98 Tradewinds help.

Hello Everyone.... Just joined and have a few questions. New to the RV world, however have a wonderful concept to everything as I work on the water on yachts and most systems seem to be quite similar in regards... I just purchased a '98 Tradewinds with CAT3126. The Coach has been sitting for years with limited miles (49,547!) over the past 6 years it has been used about 3 times with hardly any travel... according to the previous owner, they have maybe used the generator 2 times as they have always been to a hook up site, which at this point I don't want to run the generator until I take it apart anyways any go thru it... It have had work done over the past few years, I don't know until I go back up and see if they did an IFS kit or any other modifications to it, on the oil side of things.... I will have to get new tires as the tires that are on it are in GOOD condition, however, the coach hasn't been moved in 2 yrs(?)

Any other things I should look for engine wise or transmission wise to think over this summer before the trip back south this winter(?)

I thank you all for your time and response.

Welcome to iRV2.

Tires may look good , but RV tires will rot before the tread wears out. Find the date code on ALL the tires over five years old they're questionable , over seven replace ASAP. Code is only on one side on most brands so you may have to crawl around.
The tires in the picture were manufactured in the fourteenth week of 2004 .
Fluid changes and short trips to start .

Gotcha Skip426... Thanks for the welcome and advice... From what I understand from the owner is the tires were put on "new" just about 5 years ago, however i budgeted new tires in on the bargaining price on the final sale. Been reading alot of the HUEI Pump problems with the 3126 and thinking of doing the IFS Fix also... Thanks again for your input!

I read the info on the , post HEUI filter system and been on the fence about the install .

I'm 10 years in , with average 4,000 miles annually , and yearly oil changes and no HEUI issues , coach had 53,000 when purchased and pump is original.
Am I just lucky or have the regular oil changes enough to keep the HEUI in good operating order .

BTW: Dual meanings for the IFS acronym had me scratching my head; when I first read your post I thought ; Independent Front Suspension kit ;

Gotcha... yea, interesting, I guess its a piece of mind for sure... being new to the RV world for me may ease it a bit.... I do work in the marine industry and do light servicing on diesel engines and generators along with AC and such... this would surely ease the worry a bit, plus I could install it myself to save a little $$... At the end of the day it's proper PREVENTATIVE maintenance as we all know in the long run and I'm sure the former owner spared no expense, however stating from scratch knowing I did the work and where I stand on some points will ease the worry also... after all we buy these to enjoy and have fun!!
