2004 Dolphin Workhorse W22
The A/C compressor clutch cycles on/off when the AC is not turned on. For example, selecting the vent control switch, blower on, but A/C not selected, I still see the clutch coming on intermittantly. Does the temperature setting position activate the A/C compressor even if the A/C is not selected? Has anyone else noticed the clicking sound when the A/C is off and the engine is running?

Question 2... I was going to buy an A/C recharge kit, can't find R134A kits anywhere in Canada. Has anyone found a source? Can dealers recharge using R134A, or are they also restricted to the same 12A crap?

If your selector is in the defroster mode it will kick in and out.

You said you were going to recharge your system, is it not cooling? Just buying a recharge kit from an auto parts store and shooting freon into the system may overcharge the system & cause problems. There should be a sticker on your evaporator coil cover with the type of freon and the amount of freon that the system will hold for the best cooling. Don't rely on the sight glass on top of the drier. This is one of the times when more isn't better.

The low side pressure switch is dropping the compressor clutch; temporarily shorting out the connector brings the clutch on, and even then there is no cooling. Visually I can't see anything else wrong with the system. After 14 yrs it could be low in R134a. I am going to add a couple ounces at a time and see if it makes any improvement, but all they sell in Canada is R12A, not about to use that.
