Any 2003 National Islander issues?

Rig looks great (very low mileage as was primarily lived in) except for fiberglass/paint. Paint is in pretty good shape and from a few feet back looks great but several long cracks - most on passenger side around kitchen. Also some possible delamination just above cargo doors on passenger side (just above trim) and some bubbling under paint on metal slide corners. Has there been a structural problem with National's modifications to the DynoMax chassis? Any comments and suggestions on things to look out for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Certainly a good chassis but I have no direct info on it. What I can say is that for the most part NRV were good motor homes. Some issues in early years were minor delamination problems, issues with the bonding glue showing through the siding, and fogging windows or zipper seals between the dual pane windows. These issues were in early models but not all units had them.

You may want to look at the Country Coach forum concerning the chassis since they were the same used in the Islander in most cases. I would not hesitate to go for one. I saw an 02 last year that I really wanted but I had just put lots of money in my motor home and couldn’t justify the move.

Thanks, Whaler2. Did the 02 that you considered have any cracks in the fiberglass walls?

No cracks or big issues. Had been updated with new TVs and other touches. Had a Cummins 400 and was well cared for unit. Owners were older and done traveling.

We bought a 2003 Islander a little over one year ago. It has been fantastic. We love it. Would not hesitate to recommend this to friends. I just removed carpeting and replaced with luxury vinyl planking and that has been a great upgrade.

Drove it today and decided not to purchase due to other mechanical issues and the fiberglass problems.

We liked the interior except for the frame behind the driver's seat that supports the slide out. With the slide out, that frame protrudes into the front passageway and prevents turning the driver's seat around to face the living room.

03 NatRV Islander

Yes, the slide rail support is in the way, but makes a nice spot for which to place your beverage container! Steering wheel also blocks rotation of the drivers seat. But we still love it.

Thanks, I didn't realize the steering wheel also kept the driver's seat from turning around. Two questions. Did you also replace the carpet on the slide with vinyl planking? Does your rig have any fiberglass cracks on the side walls?

Slide carpet; Not replaced yet. See attached picture. Our rig has no cracking on the outside walls. I get compliments about the shine even though I have not washed and waxed it this year. The automobile finish with clear coat is a huge bonus in my view.

Thanks so much for your input. Nice work on the flooring. We are sticking with our Dutchstar for now, as we are going on a 7 week RV adventure to Canada starting Aug. 19

2004 Islander

It seems like every time we put slide out the lights will go off in the ceiling. Experiencing some electrical shorts. Anyone else with this problem, maybe where to start looking?
Love ours 70000 miles and had it about 6 years.

Also the flapper on the electronic toilet, once in a while will stay open. Again I think something electrical.
