Battery Addition

I just installed an inverter in my 1997 Sea Breeze and it became immediately obvious that I needed more battery power. The standard house battery config is two 6V in series under the entry staircase for a 12 volt output. The inverter uses up the 225 amp hours pretty quickly.

I am planning to add two more 6 volters in the storage bay to the right of the front door. The top clearance is 19" and I need about 12" for the batteries but that doesn't leave much room for servicing. My question is --- Has any one out there built a battery box for their unit in one of the Sea Breeze's rather small storage bays? If so, your plans would be helpful.

7" is enough, just use a flashlite and mirror

battery addition

I did that some time ago on my previous Dolphin. I posted pictures on the Yahoo Group National RV web site. Basically a marine battery box and flex tubing to vent the gases out of the compartment. Ran the cables behind the compartment to the batteries in the stair compartment. worked fine. Had no problem maintaining them and refilling water. Check out the pics.

You can get ready made slide out battery trays .. Means you use a bit more cable to hook 'em up but that would be my suggestion.

Or you can home make with stuff from your local big-box home improvement store. But the HD ones are better made I think.

Google it

Simplist way to maintain the water level is install a Pro-Fill watering system. I have one it very simple to use just takes a few minutes check the water level, no need to slide the batteries out.
