Battery Knife Switch?

There is an knife switch on the positive terminal on the house batteries. For the life of me I cannot figure out why it is there.

If there is a use, it needs to be replaced. Is this something that came from the factory? Or is it an add on my soneone that didn't know what they were doing?

It doesn't cut off all power, as there are some wires that it does not disconnect...

any info would be appreciated.

Probably added by a previous owner. I added a key type switch to mine so that when the motorhome is not used for an extended time the battery's won't be overcharged. When down for an time like now, can't travel due to back surgery, I will go out and turn the switch on for a couple of days to let the battery charge, then turn back off. I should be on the negative cable and turn off all power.

+1 on Wizard's comments. They didn't come from the factory with the blade switch, but I'm getting ready to add one to mine to keep the batteries from draining over the winter.
