Bay door repair

On my 2005 Sea Breeze the gas struts are attached to the plastic sheeting on the inside of the bay door. There is nothing solid under that to hold the screws. The plastic has torn on both sides of the door.

Anyone have an idea how to repair that so it will hold?

I will take a couple of pictures and try to post them so you can see what I am trying to describe.
