Funny that this post came up. I posted earlier that my chassis battery charges when plugged into shore power. I'm day seven into an 80 day trip and have found that my chassis battery is not charging anymore when plugged into shore power. I'm sure it's the interconnect/boost relay that went bad. Has anyone actually changed this relay? Any suggestions would be appreciated. It is really in a tight spot.

The way I did mine was to take down the front circuit board. Take pictures and mark any connectors you remove. Also disconnect all batteries and unplug from shore power before starting to disassemble. This is what I replaced mine with in 2015.

The chassis battery in our 2000 gas powered coach is charged by the converter when plugged into shore power so long as the chassis battery disconnect switch is the ON position. If in the OFF position it will not receive a charge.

Thanks chboone. I'll have the part shipped ahead to relatives we'll be visiting and attempt to do it while there.

solar charging
My 2000 tradewinds has factory installed solar panels to trickle charge the house batteries, as posts here show they were pretty useless when new and after 18 years not worth having. I bought a 100w solar panel and controller from Home depot, eay to fit and now charges my house batteries during storage (out in the open of course) and when on site. If anyone wants more details or installation guide then post back here.

I installed 540 watts of solar on my Dolphin a few years back to charge my six 6 volt house batteries. If your interconnect solenoid and BCC is operating correctly your chassis battery or batteries will also be charged by your solar. Once the house batteries reach 13.2 V the interconnect solenoid will close (after a 15 second delay) and send current to the chassis battery.

If you do not use your M.H. very often and you can not plug it in any where you may want to have a small Solar panel installed on the roof that will keep your battery up.
One other thing to think about is to check the water level in each one.
With out water they wont last long.
Just a thought.
