Cord broke on day/night shades...EZ fix ?

Did watch the video from FixMyBlinds.com. Any dope could do this.....except me.

One cord gave way. Other side still attached to retainer/tensioner. Can I restring WITHOUT removing valance and shade ?

Thank you....

I've restrung a few shades on my MH and there isn't much way to do it without taking the valences and the shades down.

I am not a do it yourself type but I was able to restring ours. It was a hassle taking them down but I purchased a angle attachment to the drill and it worked to take out the screws. It all made sense once I was able to see behind the valance.

Good luck

You can restring with or without taking them down, but much easier with it on the floor looking at you. Go on U-tube and bring it up for a 2 string or 4 string. Easy Peasy. Yes U can do it. Know this lady that does it in 20 minutes for 50 dollars a crack.

I just finished doing mine. It's not easy unless you take down the shade. That isn't as hard as it sounds. Only 4 accessibile screws held my valence brackets on. Easy screwdriver removal. Leave the brackets on and unscrew from the valence . When you have it off if you remove the end caps on the top rail you can slide the whole shade off very easily and lay it flat.

The cords have to be crossed over under the day night slide and at the bottom. Restring both and replace the spring. All included. Take it down. Restring it as the directions say. Put everything together but do not tie it on the bottom.

Carefully hang it back up and then twist the cords on to the stays at the bottom. You can then adjust it perfectly and tie it off without having to measure. It's a learning experience but not all that hard just a bit time-consuming for the first one. After that you'll be an expert. By the way, if you get the same kit I got the bottom retainers pry open which is something that they don't really address in the instructions. Everything else they say is pretty good.

Adult beverages recommended!

I am happy to announce...it is fixed without removing valance or shade.

Further inspection showed the cord did not break....rather part of the plastic tensioner/retainer broke and 99% of the string was intact.

Bottom of the rail slid off and re-threaded the cord thru 5-6 pleats....patched in a 1 foot piece of new cord....crossed it thru and put the rail back in. Tied off to the old tensioner and...viola.

Found a sticker: Specialty Window Coverings, Div. of Decorator Ind., 1655 Gateway Ct., Elkhart, IN (219) 262-5190.
