Fixin'; is impossible.

After trying to fix all four vents in our 2001 Safari, finally gave up and bought new ones. Tired all the local Trailer Supply houses and nothing matched. Found them on eBay for about $12 each. Critical dimension is the attachment to the supply air house on the backside of the vent, which would be a major undertaking to modify. Our vent supply air shape is oval, so measured both major and minor diameters and found a good match.

Might take a little search time on eBay, but our new ones all work great and are a step up in quality.

SSultany, thanks for your info but I'm talking about a little silver valve (round like) under the dash on the passenger side..I can manually move the lever on the valve and the doors will work but it is very hard to move the lever..I clamped the lever into position with a channel lock pliers and then would get the air out of the dash vents but using the knob on the dash panel doesn't operate the inner doors. Any other ideas anyone?

That part is vacuum operated, and i was informed about this being a problem in the dryer climate, check all the vacuum lines to and from the master switch, sometimes the whole problem stems from a hose falling off and/drying out and cracking and not holding the vacuum . I hope this is of some help to you.

Before you replace the valve check if you have vacuum at the valve with a gauge or with your tongue (engine running and moving the knob on the dash). You can check the valve by putting a different hose on the valve and sucking to see if it moves. As others have said it is most likely a bad hose in the system.

Check vent control vacuum lines inside & outside the firewall for damage. Mice chewed on mine while in storage causing same fault as you have. I found the problem by closely checking hoses visually.

Sometimes it is simple, our dog knocked a hose loose. It was under the dash on the passenger side and easy to reach. What a relief! Might check there first it is easy for a passenger to hit it with a foot.

Well, it was right in front of my nose...well not quite,,apparently the last mechanic that changed the oil bumped the large vac hose off the black canister under the hood...so glad it was easy,,we made our trip to DC (College Park MD) Cherry Hill RV Park..had a pliers locked on the can under the dash to keep the air coming thru the dash vents..just didn't have time to trace the vac problem til now...thanks for all the info guys..
Happy Trails!
