disconnect

got to clean the contacts on my batteries, so the question is; do I need to switch the battery disconnect switch before take the cables off?

Since you're disconnecting the cable from the electrical source,(the battery) unless you've got something on drawing a lot of amps it really doesn't make much difference. Be sure to photograph the original routing and label cables so they go back where they came from.

I would, and even then take hot wire precautions.

Disconnect, then lift NEGATIVE wires of batteries (and mark them with black tape, paint or split loom)

then do Positive wires (Only use RED on this side.

Clean, Replace batteries as needed, Re-attach POSITIVE, then NEGATIVE then re-connect.

Turn off the switch first. If you have been charging the batteries, they could be gassing. A spark will make them go BOOM. If you got a switch might as well use it.

You might take off any rings, metal watch or bracelet......and of course cufflinks.
