Dometic Door Gaskets

We have a 2001 Tradewinds LTC with the Dometic side by side refrigerator. I need to replace the door gaskets but I have not been able to find a way to take the door off. In the picture inside the circle there is a plastic cap on the corner. How do you get this cap to come off?

Open the door. Look for the one screw that goes up through the metal plate that the hinge post goes through, remove the screw. Look at the bottom metal plate that the bottom hinge post goes through. Remove the 2 screws that attach this plate to the face of the refer box. Door should come off, I don't think that plastic cap needs to be removed.

Where did you get the gaskets for the side by side. I need to replace the one on my freezer door and will probably do both.
My freezer seems to want to frost up from the ice maker up. I don't use the ice maker as the plastic hose broke in several pieces and I'm not sure that I want to pull the fridge to replace it.The shop wants 4 hours labor to replace a $4-5 part.Does anyone know if you can replace it w/o pulling the fridge?

Had to pull mine, but the ice maker started acting up so stopped using it all together.

Dometic Door Gasket

I bought my gaskets from Auburn Kent Valley RV Center, Kent, WA Auburn - Kent Valley RV Center LLC - Home in Aug 2012 for $243. They had to order them for me and it took about 5 days. The box came with instructions on how to remove the old gaskets and put the new ones on. I've been trying ever since to try and get the door off.

Today I'm going to try what Vegasdan suggested.

Point Hudson

We were there a few years ago. The fog rolled in..... The fog horn started to blow, and blew for about 24 hours without stop!!!!!!
The horn is on a post right in the RV park...
I hope you have a sunny weekend!

We have also had to listen to the fog horn and that was our first trip there and we were in a pop-up and we still go there 3-4 times a year.

It's a great spot! We were there when the New Jersey went by when it was towed out of Bremerton for the final time. That was a really cool sight!
We stayed in the "hotel", the old Coast Guard building, one time when we had our boat in the yard. The walls are so thin you could hear every conversation in the building!
There is no place on earth like the Northwest when the weather is nice!

Not to change the subject back to the OP, but did you ever get the door off?

Rctennent, did you ever get the door off and the gaskets installed? How was the install and were the directions adequate?

Dometic Door Gasket

Nobody had the correct answer. You do the following:

1. Open the doors and take the screws (4) out of the control unit (above the doors) there 2 in the middle and one on each end.

2. You can now see the tops of the doors. In the top of each door there is a "Hinge Pin". This pin has to be unscrewed by using a wrench on the top of the Hinge Pin and the nut under the bracket has to be held (I used my neddle nosed pliers). You have to very careful not to lose the nut after loosing the hinge pin.

3. As you pull out the hinge pin be careful because the door will to be free to fall. Lift up the door from the bottom to remove the pin (on the bottom of the door) from the bracket.

4. Now you can proceed with replacing the gaskets per the parts instructions.

5. Putting the door back on is the reverse procedure from removing the door.
