Dometic Fridge Light

The Dometic NDR1062 fridge in my Dolphin came to me without a bulb. The socket leads me to believe that the base of the bulb must be similar an old vacuum tube. Anyone know the bulb number?

EDIT: Found an NDR1062 parts list and it looks like this is the bulb, which is a standard G4.

https://getrvparts.com/dometic-38504...-volt-10-watt/

It seems there's a cover for it too, that my fridge seems to be missing. Does this look like the correct cover (even though it's out of stock)?

My Dometic uses the same bulb ; probably the same model fridge .

My manual ; that should have the bulb # ; is in the coach sitting out in the yard in a downpour at the moment .

When the rain stops I'll get the manual .
I will mention that the, light on/off door switch, on the fridge is persnickity and that during a certain cycle ( auto defrost I believe ) the light stays on with the door closed to speed up defrost ; probably the person who removed the bulb didn't understand that.

If you don't have a manual , try this site for a free download .

www.myrvworks.com/manuals/

I'll get to the coach when there is no risk of drowning and if the bulb number isn't in the manual I'll pull the bulb for it, and repost with the info.

You edited your post while I was typing ; that doesn't look like the lens in my fridge .
Can you post a picture of your light/door switch area ?

EDIT: Ok my info might be of no use; on the page you linked my fridge uses the 20072900P bulb .

The lens I posted the link to above is L-shaped. This one (below) on E-Bay claims to be for an NDR1062, but it's U-shaped. Anyone know which one is correct?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your response, Skip. Seems like our posts are crossing. Perhaps my last post is the lens that your fridge has?

Thanks for your response, OB. I did manage to find an LED version of the bulb locally at Home Depot, and now I know that the reason the bulb is missing is because it doesn't shut off when the door is closed. So now I get to figure out what is wrong with the switch, lol.

First I have to figure out how to get the plastic cover off without breaking it.

Lazy day here at the campground in Tehachapi watching the glider school students take off and land, so that's now my project whenever the runway is not in use. It's not a bad life!

Aha! Found an old thread about the light staying on and learned that there's a hidden "low ambient temperature" switch, which apparently makes the light stay on to reduce condensation. So just need a lens now and she'll be good as new!

I also learned about a second "climate control" switch which enables a heating element around the door frame. Mine has apparently been on since I bought the rig three years ago. I imagine that results in a pretty good current drain, so good thing we always have hook ups!

I upgraded the bulb from 10W to a 20W equivalent since current drain is not really an issue with the LED bulb, and it makes for a nice bright light in the fridge. Best of all, Home Depot has them, and several different wattages to choose from!

Thanks to all who responded!

YEP......

LAT (Low Ambient Temp) Switch
Turn on when ambient temps drop below 50*F
*Keeps Light on to provide a heat source to help fridge function in cold temps
Causes heating cycles every 35-55 minutes which keeps Freezer COLD
*food compartment doesn't warm up with cool/cold outside temps so heating cycles are less frequent which allows freezer temps to increase

Climate Control is for Summer High Temps/Humidity conditions
Embedded heater in frame it helps keep condensation from forming on fridge
*When ON it is a continuous 12VDC Draw (~0.5a)

We use the LED bulb, have not had issues, but we winter at 3600' elevation in the south-west, and the temperature is not usually below freezing during the day in the winter. Our freezer runs at about 20degF in cold weather rather than near zero when it is 90degF ambient, so we just consume the food faster during the winter. I keep the incandescent bulb in a drawer just in case I need the extra heat so the fridge cycles more often.

FYI (off the light subject and on cold weather subject): It is important to know, there are fan controllers for absorption refrigerators that run the fan any time the boiler is on. This results in lack of refrigeration in weather below 60degF. The cooling unit needs the heat from the boiler between the boiler assembly and the condenser to prevent the refrigerant from condensing before it gets to the condenser.

Forgot to mention (for dummies like me who don't read the manual) that on the NGR1062 the "hidden" switches are visible at the top of the freezer door. You have to open the freezer door to see them, and they're black-- same color as the metal frame-- so you're likely to miss them unless you know they're there.

We've had nighttime temps in the low 30s for the last week or so and the ice cream is still hard, so I guess I won't be needing the incandescent light anytime soon. Keeping one on hand in case you do is a good idea though.
