Dometic Ice Maker Freezes Up

The ice maker in our Dometic fridge freezes up unless I keep dumping ice so it never stops making cubes. The temp setting is on 2, and we have RV Cooling Warehouse fans inside and on the condenser. I replaced the failed plastic tubing water feed with copper when I did the rear cooling fans. Once it freezes up it has to be defrosted to get it working again.

Before I get my tools out I thought I'd see if anybody on here had the same problem and found a fix.

Mike

Mine does the same.

My fix is to drink more, so there is always room for more cubes !

That was my first thought also!
When I asked for a budget increase to cover the cost of the necessary liquids, it was denied!!!

Just tell your wife, it's the ONLY logical solution, and you read it on the internet, so it must be true !!

I read her your response Ben......
This is a family oriented site, so I will not attempt to convey her reply!!!!
Her position is unchanged.
I think I will move to a dry county and solve the problem.
Or maybe just drink beer!!!

Hi Mike,

Beer is always a good solution however. Inside the ice maker there is a small heater that comes on via the timer and heats the ice tray just enough so the ice does not stick to the tray. There may be a fuse (I doubt it) or micro switch or the heater itself has become defective. You should be able to repair it. First I would check to see if the heater is open using an ohm meter. Next verify the switch is working. Be careful the ice maker runs on 120VAC make sure you remove all shore power and the inverter is off.
