Dometic refrigerator concern

I never noticed it before but after working inside my refrigerator outside
compartment area I found that when I turn on my coach disconnect
electric switch my refrigerator gas unit ignites and lights my refrigerator
pilot light?

I would think that this would be a really bad waste of propane???

so in other words when my power to the coach is on also is my pilot light
on my refrigerator?

I have dometic Americana 3 way refrigerator RM4562.

is that the way that they are suppose to work? again it seems like
I would use and waste a lot of propane even if my refrigerator is not
turned on. so even just driving down the road my pilot light is lit ande
using propane even though I don't have my fridge turned on?

I hardly use it on propane anyway. mostly use it on 12 volt when I am
at the campground.

am I worrying for nothing? just seems like it would wear out the gas
thermocoupler and buner orifice a lot quicker and sooner since it was
always burning 24 hours a day?

I think it only shuts down when I hit my disconnect power switch.

anyway I would like to know if all the dometic fridges work this way?

maybe I can figure out how to rewire so it don't light the pilot light
every time I turn on my power to the coach? thanks for any insight
and help since I am not a electrican or a electrical type of guy.

Fridge operation selection: When no a/c is present it will automatically select propane to keep things cool, and when you start the generator or plug into shore power it will automatically select the a/c power as its source to operate.

If your fridge is set to Auto operation the fridge will light as palehorse said the fridge needs to be shut off when not in use.
When in a campground use the 110 ac your paying for it.
The 12v mode in a three way fridge is for when you are traveling and it just maintains the cold in your fridge until you get to next location.
When you are traveling put fridge on AUTO mode and the control board will select the correct option its to use.
The MODE button is on your front control board of fridge.
If you shut off gas valve control on pipe feeding the fridge you will not use the LP Gas, AUTO will select the 12v or 110 ac.
The fridge operates more efficiently on 110 or LP Gas.

Your fridge should have a switch on the right door or somewhere to set the MODE..set the MODE switch to:

AU - it will switch automatically from electric to LP gas when you disconnect your electric as long as you batterys are not shut off .
.
AC - it will run on electric only when plugged into electric.

LP - it will run on GAS only as long as your batterys are on.

ON/OFF - Shut it off if you don't want it to run on gas or electric.

Happy Trails!
