drivers fuel hose leaking

It seems as if every time I get ready to go out, something new happens. Took the motorhome out for a bit of a run yesterday and to fill it with fuel, about $220 at Costco at $3.39 per, and when I got it back into storage, I noticed something dripping off the left front jack and found it was diesel. Then, I thought to myself, self, why is there a diesel hose on the left side of the tank with no outer filler cap. Crawled underneath, no small feat for this 80 y/o body, and found a locked filler cap just above the propane tank, in a place where you're not going to be able to get a nozzle into. On further inspection, I found that the fuel seems to be leaking out thru the hose itself, no holes and no visible cracks.
I'm wondering if there is any reason I can't just put a short piece of hose on it and cap it off or if there is a GOOD reason that filler is there. I am going to have to burn off several gallons of fuel so that I can remove the old hose.
I guess I shouldn't have squeezed that extra penny of fuel into the tank after all.

Many diesel tanks are built with a fill on both sides so the RV can be pulled up to a pump on either side (like mine). It sounds from your description like you don't have a fill on the one side that is leaking and they just capped it off. Is that right? About 28 years ago I had a new RV spew fuel all over the ground at the gas station as I was filling it. Looked underneath and the filler hose had a hole in it. Duct tape came in hand until I could get over from the station to an auto parts store and buy a hose. On your situation, can't you just replace the leaking hose with a new one?

The extra hose isn't an overflow vent is it?

No, it just seems to be one that is there if they had wanted to make it be able to fill it from both sides , like some rigs I've seen.

We have a 2001 tradewinds LTC, the hose on the left above the propane tank is your left side tank fill.

Check the cap on top, it could be leaking.
