Entry steps covering the engine battery

Hey guys, got another problem. When I tried to lift the interior entry steps covering the engine battery on my 03 Dolphin LX 6342 the first riser broke loose from the tread. Appears to be made of particle board or something since the screws holding riser to tread all pulled loose. Anyone else had problems with the interior steps? Would a 2" X 2" angle about the length of the step width placed on the back side be adequate to hold the riser and tread together? Just thinking how a repair might be made. Would appreciate any ideas or procedures to make the repair.

Thanks
Duane

Rebuild the steps with new wood. I would cut them from a length of 1x12 and glue and screw the angle. Thia is a simple fix.
