I own a 2006 National Dolphin 5355 RV and keep it in an open storage yard when not using. I recently found an ant problem inside when I checked the unit last week. I have since sprayed all floor areas with Raid and set ant traps all around. When checking this week, the ants have subsided, but now I have two locations (one on top of a back cushion of my dinette/the other on the floor outside of my bathroom) of fine sand or what looks like maybe sawdust??
When I check directly overhead of both locations, I cannot see any evidence of termites and only see my ceiling which is padded. I don't know if this is material that has been blown into thru the ceiling vents or what is causing it?
Has anybody else experienced this issue or have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Hmmm......could those ANTs have been Termites?!! Rook

Hi Rook,
I don't think they were termites as they all looked like ants and I looked very carefully at all of my woodwork areas and cannot see any evidence of wood being eaten away. This is a mystery to me! The Raid I sprayed took care of the ants and I don't know if it would also work on termites.

Sounds like carpenter ants. I would look carefully for any roof leaks over where you find the piles, they usually chew in spots of moisture, the find dust can drop down though a tiny crack, without a visible sign where it was coming from. I had a flashing leak on my back porch and found that dust without any sign of anything on the ceiling, when I remove the molding around the ceiling, I found a mess.

If they are Termites, they hide where they are eating by moving their sawdust to another location. Don't ask how I know, but it was a $3500 repair job at the house.

Google dry wood termites. The sand is called fres or something like that. You need to look for tiny holes that they push the fres out of.

I have them eating my boat. I've been spraying some stuff, I got on the internet in the areas. It seems to be working but don't remember what I'm using, the boats in FL and I'm in NY.
