Handicapped access to RV's

My wife had extensive injuries from a car wreck that put her in a wheel chair for 10 months and until just recently, kept her out of our RV. We are in our 70's, and through this experience, we have come to have a real appreciation for what handicapped folks deal with every day. There seems to be lots of individuals that are either temporarily or permanently unable to negotiate stairs at home or in their RV's. I looked extensively for a temporary, reasonably priced solution for the RV that wouldn't require a complex modification, and finding none, ended up designing and building a device giving her access. My question is, are we the only one's frustrated with this lack of options? There seems to be unlimited products for anything else you can think of for an RV, but for the handicapped, not much. Of course, there is always the option of buying a special unit designed from the ground up, but that seems like a radical and very expensive solution. Is it just us, or, are we the only ones that found ourselves in this pickle?

We have a friend who are restricted to a wheelchair. They have have a lift on their motorhome. Something like this one.
RV Lift - Coach Lift

There are many options out there.

Thanks Mike. That looks like a good option. Not sure what it costs. All the devices I have seen run from $ 2500 - $ 5000. I guess more than anything, I am surprised there is not more conversation about handicapped access to RV's in general. I know there are lots of RV's and lots of handicapped. The US has spent probably billions on a nationwide attempt to make streets, curbs, parking, bathrooms and buildings all handicapped accessible. It just seems conspicuous by the absence of a lot of conversation on how the handicapped have adapted their RV's.

I know Newmar makes a gas one that is specifically designed for wheel chair access. Everything inside designed for the same thing. I believe there are others out there besides Newmar as well but that doesn’t help unless you are in the marked for a replacement.

I think the bigger issue is overall making them all so they “could easily be tweaked” for that type of access.

I think they should all have to make at least one for that but just me.

Same as a home - depending on layout etc could get very expensive having things remodeled if needed.
