It's time to change the fuel filter and spark plugs on my Marquee 7000 gen. The gen cover has to come off to reach these two items. National mounted the gen in such a way the only solution is for the service center to remove and reinstall the entire gen.; 5 hours of labor at $105 per hr.

Any thoughts or alternatives?

Fred

Fred,

I think that I would also contact National. I would also take a look at the documentation that you got with the coach. Onan spells out installation requirements to the body builders, such as clearances etc. My guess is that National installed the generator according to these specs. If so, I would also contact Onan for their take on the issue.

Thanks for the information. I took the Onan Service Centers word that the fuel filter was located on the back side of the unit. When I looked at the Spec sheet it appears to be underneath the left front of the unit. The spark plugs seem to be the real problem. The rear cover hold down screws are located inside of the "L" bracket gussets and probably don't enough clearance to remove. Additionally the slide drive is located above the gen cover, further complicating the issue.

Gdlow, were you able to change the fuel filter yourself; supposedly this is only sold and installed by an Onan SC?

Well after whinning and sniveling, I purchased a 15/16 deep socket, cut off the compression clamp and replaced the filter. $2.60 I would reccomend removing the air filter housing (two nuts and 2 bolts) saving a lot of yarning around.

The spark plugs are another story, for now the gen is running fine, so they will not get replaced.

Thanks again for all the info.

Fred
