Top picture is mounted in the rear as an outer dual, if you just spin it around the outside flat plate (lug stud surface) of the wheel becomes the flat plate of the inner dual or front tire position as shown in #2

My older F53 had a spare 19.5 tire between the frame rails... I was very happy to have it when I experienced a sidewall blowout on the PA turnpike at about Midnight. Checked everything on the side of the road and limped slowly another couple miles to a rest stop.

Got out the breaker bar, loosened the lug nuts and hit the levelers (I know, and dont wanna hear it but it worked awesome!). The spare was quite a bit different in tread depth (and overall height) than my other dual so we jacked up a front and pulled that tire off and put the spare on the front, the front on the back and the blowout back up under the coach. Now would be a good time to recommend a good compact air compressor. We popped the fuse in my little 12V emergency unit about 15 minutes into getting the tire up to only 60 psi.

Id rather have it and not need it... Id even be happy to have an old out of date tire to get me to the next town or garage or wherever I needed to go to get another viable tire.

Scooter. Less Schwab in Oregon City Or. found the new W.H. wheel for me. I had just bought replacement tires and used an old tire for the spare.. And yes i only plan to get home on the old spare. I have an 04, 8375 Sea Breeze and the spare fits in the second bay drivers side at an angle. I also have no intention of changing the tire myself but want it for G.S. road service just in case.
Let us know how it works out

JohnRR has said all these rims on the W22 are the same part number---so they would be the same--you just reverse them depending on position. This really makes sense to me---I guess you will know for sure when Les Schwab gets through.

We are talking about the same access to the pass through area----I think it will be a mighty struggle to get a 150# tire and rim in there---and out.

You seem determined to carry a tire mounted on a wheel----not sure I would---and for sure if you have never changed a tire before this 11 ton motor home is a little too much OJT for me.

I have changed tires before, and I have seem my rears come off to fix a slow leak, and I want nothing to do with doing one of these beside the road somewhere. I guess you said your Good Sam folks would not allow a tire change-----I think I would get to someone who will.

Scooter: I did reply to your Personal Message, but I think it must have ended up in the bit bucket. Anyway, I will send the info along with some other stuff added.

First of all, let me say I have never had a tire problem with my current MH, but I had three blow outs on my previous rig. You might say I'm gun shy now, or you will have to understand that I am a belt and suspenders guy.

Now, having said all that, I do carry an "inflated spare tire" as the Coach Net Emergency Roadside Assistance requires in order to help me out if I should ever have a flat. I would never undertake the job of changing a tire on this MH. I don't have the equipment nor the strength.

The "inflated spare tire" resides on the shelf behind the first compartment to the rear of the MH entrance door. It is a "shoe horn fit". It took two of us to get it slid in. I also carry the 39" X 32" X 3/4" plywood board that I placed between the bottom frame of the door and the upper edge of the shelf to slide the spare tire upwards to a point where we could tip it level with the shelf and slide it in the rest of the way. I have a piece of 3/4" rope looped through the rim and tied outside the tire. There is enough spare rope to pull the spare tire off the shelf and slide it down the board. It would be almost impossible to push it out from the other side.

I bought a new rim simply because I couldn't find a used one. I bought a used tire that I feel confident would get me to a tire shop that can furnish and mount a new tire. The spare has never been out of it's home. It will probably require additional air, but most service trucks carry a compressor. If not, I do have a small compressor that I use to top off the mounted tires periodicly.

I carry a 22.5 spare unmounted in my one pass thru. I have USAA for roadside service. In the event I have a flat I will request a service that can hand mount my spare. This is how my tire dealer mounts my tires now.

A spare tire & wheel, just a wheel, or just a tire that is one of those personal decision you have to make for yourself. There is no right or wrong only what makes you feel comfortable.

I carry an unmounted spare to avoid having to wait a few days to get a replacement. I carry mine in the middle of my large bay with the slide out tray. Every RV will be different in this regard.

Here is my "2 cents worth"': We have carried a spare/no rlm, in the toad for 3 years and never needed it until had an outside dual blow traveling on interstate outside of San Antonio. Called roadside service, and they had a truck there within 30 minutes with equipment to mount spare on our rim. CoachNet told me they covered the service call, but I would have to pay to have tire mounted. (think it was $50 on a Sunday afternoon, and he did at a spot with an extra wide shoulder on the interstate.

I wouldn't give up the weight carrying ability for a spare. With a spare you need a jack, A LARGE jack and them someone strong enough to take off the lugs. My Geico policy covers road side assistance, including dealing with flats.

I used to,but now I have it already mounted. AAA tow will cover a tire mount on the wheel only if the particular tow company has a tire changer.
I ran into this issue between vridgeport and Conway Summit ca on hwy 395.
There are some tow companies that will do this as part of the call using AAA,but i dont think there are many of those. They are probably more likely in remote areas like i was in.

I tow my PU and keep a second spare in the PU bed. Its worth the effort.

If its convienient,I just change it myself. Its really not that hard, I save the AAA service for the difficult calls, like storms, unlevel ground, freeway flats. Service calls can have those, well worth it.

I am not going to carry a tire/wheel and change it myself. Too old and too weak. This is why the Almighty created road side service. I am not going to carry a spare, unmounted, and do the entire job myself. Too old, too weak and too smart.

MY RESPONSE
Before you make up your mind consider this.
oH I see,you stated UNMOUNTED. I agree here,but
heres to those that dont carry spares

I had a flat on the 395 in Bishop Ca. Not one tire new or used . i called all over mammoth,Bishop, but zip.
Delivery of tires to the area was every wednesday out of reno Nev.

No one here is going to change their own 22.5 tire. We are talking about a spare for the road side to change. [moderator edit]. Try getting a spare tire in backwoods USA on a weekend. Try getting towed to a tire center in dumbwoods USA. You may have to camp on the side of the road for days. I don't care what service company you have. Carrying a spare tire or tire/wheel is just common sense.

YES......... I was able to cram in the compartment a MOUNTED 245/75/22.5 tire. 1/3 of the tire sits on the shelf until the wheel hub hits and stops it. 2/3 of the tire hangs in space. A 2x4 wood frame/brace/box will support the rest of the tire. Compartment door JUST closes.
