How do you work the wipers!?! - 2003 National Tradewinds 395LE

Good evening everyone!

We just docked up in Nashville at Seven Points on an extremely late arrival. We did a long-haul push today of 620 miles and we're half-dead!

We bought our 2003 Tradewinds yesterday in Houston and (I thought) I checked over everything very thoroughly... except the wipers?

When I push the middle button for squirts and wipes, I can hold it all day and I get wipers (and spray). But I cant push, pull, turn, or any combination therein the knob to make the wipers stay on a desired speed. The wipers wont work unless I am pushing the squirts button. I dont know what I'm missing... but it appears they work... I just dont know what I'm looking for, or what the secret formula is to get them working!

(Thank god it only sprinkled for about 5 minutes. Had it been a consistent rain, we would have been parked somewhere.)

In other news, the rig is running absolutely beautifully... and I'm about to go test my pillow again... I'm beat!

Have a great evening!

Justin:

The windshield wiper - washer control is a four position switch (inter knob), outer ring rheostat, and center push button.

The positions for the inter knob turning clockwise are:
1st position is OFF
2nd position is Wiper Delay. Turning the outer ring adjusts the delay.
3rd position Medium Speed wipe.
4th position Fast Speed wipe.

Depressing the center button activates the Wash.

It's possible, of course, that your switch isn't working properly. If it isn't, the chances are that they contacts just need a squirt of contact cleaner. Unfortunately that may require reaching the back of the switch, which is awkward to reach.

Hope this helps.

We LOVE our Tradewinds and we hope you share the same experience with yours!

Thank you so much for the tips! I’ll get some CRC today and hopefully that’ll work!

We just picked out coach up on Thursday. It drives fantastic. We’re still figuring some things out. Would you mind if I direct message you and ask some new-to-coach questions?

Thanks so much!

Of course you can! I'm quite the Tradewinds fan.

While I've got the Freightliner XC chassis and you've got the Spartan, most of the rest are common between us, including the CAT engine.

You can email anytime at david@stall.net we also have a Facebook page @HwyLife

I researched diesel pushers for quite awhile before picking the specific make, year, and model I wanted. That was in 2015. It took several months of searching and running down 1999 rigs from California to Georgia. Ended up buying ours in Salt Lake City, Utah. Instead of driving it home we just took off to see Wyoming first! LOL Despite working full time we've taken 47 trips travelling 16,014 miles across seven states for 162 days/104 nights that include staying at 34 different state parks since October 2015.

Having just retired I'm looking forward to a lot more travel aboard our Tradewinds.

If that doesn't work there is a way to clean the contacts of some units by popping off the end cap described on YouTube. Beware. As I found out, identifying the actual wiper control can be a chore. I had a problem with the delay settings not working. Thought it was the wiper / blinker multi-purpose switch which is the arm mechanism. Turned out to be the wiper control module which was located on the inside firewall.about an inch off the floor behind the brake pedal.

Your wiper motor MAY be a Denso. Straightforward on / off circuitry with no internal timers. If it works at all the motor is most likely good.
