Instrument panel access?

Rather than just start taking screws out, I would appreciate some guidance. I need to get to the headlight switch area to see why my switch label lights quit on me. lights in the gauges work fine on the dimmer. I seems the front panel of the dashboard doesnt come out for this. Do I have to take the top of the dash off?

Anyone been in here before?

The instrument face panel doesn't remove easily, but the entire unit with the surround is fairly easy to remove. There should be a few screws around the top perimeter as well as four from underneath - one in each outer corner and one on each side of the steering column. In addition, the top is also attached with Velcro. Once released, you should be able to tilt it back toward the steering wheel enough to access the back side.
