Kwikee step

Thought I'd share an experience with the Kwikee step on my 04 Dolphin.Recently the step stopped working and after troubleshooting determined it was the motor.I figured it's toast anyway so I took it apart and found the armature was binding up.It's a simple little motor so I cleaned everything, greased it and put it back together, bench tested it and it ran fine. Re-installed it and when you opened the door the step closed and when you closed the door it opened. This was a real head scratcher. After checking everything I could think of I was stumped.I was laying underneath looking at the motor and saw that the housing on the motor looked cleaner than I remembered. I removed the motor and sure enough when I reassembled the motor I installed the housing upside down,(it will go either way and the motor is a permanent magnet style so I didn't think it mattered).Flipped the housing over and re-installed it and it worked perfect. It's been working fine ever since.

Ah... you just had another lesson on magnetism! At first I was going to suggest you got your motor leads reversed. Never did this one before! Life's lessons!! Thanks for sharing...
