Magnetic Door Light Switch

Hi Folks,

I have a 2004 Tropical and the magnetic door switch for the stair light will not shut off. I can shut only shut it off by using a magnet, but of course I can't close the door. So I ended up removing the light bulb.

Anyone have any recommendations on the correct replacement switch? I've seen some Kwikee brand switches on Amazon, but would rather pull the trigger on one everyone knows will fit.

Thanks

Is the magnet on the door located correctly? Since youíve proven the switch works using an different magnet, Iím thinking either the magnet on the door is either missing or incorrectly located.

Thinking it wasn't located correctly, The first thing I checked was the alignment. It appears to be aligned correctly. So either the magnet is missing as you said, or somehow it died. In any case, I am going to have to replace it.

look at your porch light switch, it may be a 3 position switch. Porch/off/ step well light

Good idea, but the porch switch is just a regular off/on switch. I would think if it were a 3 position switch issue, I can still turn off the light with a stand alone magnet.

The switch-bank on the left of the door entrance (as you are coming in) has a switch labeled "Light" (left side, just under the step cover switch). In the middle position it turns off both the stairwell entry way light and a small switch bank illuminator.

Thanks! After writing my original posts, my wife schooled me on the operation of the stair switch. Not sure what I was thinking. But nonetheless, the magnetic switch was still the issue. I decided to remove the door assembly portion and investigate. I found the magnet's glue had failed and it worked it's way out of the holder. I ended up fixing it by heating up a needle nose pliers and melting a tab to lock the magnet in place.

After installing it, all is well now.
