Microwave convection replacement

What Brand? Do you have a picture?

Can't help your specific situation. A few pictures would help.

Knowing how much space you have when the door opens could be important. Our microwave opens against a wall so there has to be space for the hinged part to allow the door to open all the way.

We were lucky enough to find an exact replacement last year for our 2008 RV. Amazing in all those years nothing had changed much. It was nice to not have to relearn how to use it but there are some far more modern ones that would have been nice too.

Lifting them can be tricky. I put a towel down, then a piece of plywood, then a very small floor jack. Lifting the microwave up off the back lip was easy for me at that point. Then rolled it as close to the edge as safe and a helper (wife) gave me a hand.

The other plus of replacing with the same is the wall plate did not change.

If you have a interior venting setup this might be a good time to change to an outside vent. I changed mine years ago and and am glad I did. We full time so getting as much heat and fumes out as possible is important.

You may find some hidden screws that a normal factory mount would not do. They are not built to ride on a fault line so extra support is often needed.

Your convection part may be repairable with a simple snap disc or fuse change. Might be worth a check.

Hope this helps a bit. We use our Microwave every day and more than once a day for sure. The convection side gets used plenty. We do not have a propane oven. Using the Dual Cook mode is fun but can be tricky if you really want to produce some amazing results.

I just replace our 2005 model GE convection/microwave with the updated model (PVM9179SKSS - from Home Depot).
I've attached some images of the removal, here:

When I installed the new oven, the steps were reversed from the removal, except that I had to drill new holes in the cabinet for the bolts and the AC cord.

WARNING:

When you look at a replacement unit, you need to be aware of the air discharge vent location! When your RV was new in 2006, the air discharge ran along the top/front of you microwave and the air blew towards your face. On the new units the air discharge is located on the top surface and it blows UPWARDS, towards the ceiling. In other wards, if you used a new model, you would need to add a 3" spacer to your wall so the new microwave/convection sits 3 inches further out, in order to allow the air discharge to work. Even then, you have to be careful of the wet condensate blowing towards to your cabinets!

The appliance industry really blew this one!

The installation instructions for the GE oven explain how to set up the vent and have extra panels so that the exhaust can be directed horizontally out the back or vertically out the top.

I have a 2004 Dolphin 5345. I replaced the microwave a couple months ago. I contacted GE and they recommended model PVM9179DK6BB. (Black).

I did not need to replace the back plate and the venting was to the rear and lined up with the outside vent of my previous unit.

I also had to reposition the upper bolts.

The model being discussed here (PVM9179DK6BB) does in fact direct hot air to either the top, or to an outside vent (still the top). However, as I mentioned earlier, being it does NOT have a forward directing exhaust discharge, you are placing yourselves in a position of having to space it away from the back wall to keep it from delivering hot air and steam to the underside of your cabinetry! The hot air and steam, will, in a very short period of time, destroy your overhead cabinets and ceiling!

I toured many a new coach with this style microwave/convection oven and I can tell you first hand, that be it a $100,000 coach, or a $1,000,000.00 coach, our RV industry has never taken this new style oven into consideration and has really screwed the unsuspecting consumer when they installed them!

As a side note, for about $60.00, GE does sell a 3 inch spacer that will do what I stated has to be done. However, three inches is a lot of space in RV's!

I replaced mine with a LG convection Combo. Bought in new from the scratch and dent from Best Buy. No cosmetic damage and saves a couple hundred bucks.
