Good morning all. Last night we had a power outage at RV park. By 11:00 this morning the batteries were about dead. I had to leave the coach today but I instructed Julia to start the gen set. She reports we have 100v but the Microwave doesn't appear to work. Anyone have any experience in regard to what does and what doesn't work under gen power? Our coach, 2005 Dolphin 5376. Thanks in advance for any replies.

R & J,
Yes, the microwave should work when on generator power. What worries me is the 100 volts as that is way too low to power your appliances. I wonder if the park had an electrical malfunction that damaged your electrical system. I'd recommend you have it checked by a professional asap.

I'm sorry, I meant to say 120v, not 100v. I did think however that the park, being on low power all night might of hurt the microwave. I'll know more when I get back to the park.

Rick,
When you get back to your MH do a reset on the 120 braker for thr micro and also check all GFCI outlets. Even if the park power was low and or off unless you tried to run the microwave it should not be hurt. Best of luck

Thanks Richard, that's a good idea. One thing I was made aware of was that the under the microwave light will come on, but the display on the microwave doesn't . Mmmmmm. I'll check things out in a bit what I get back there.

Rick,
Do you have a surge & voltage protection system? One of the best additions to our coach was to install an EMS power protection unit by Progressive Industries. The model we have is a 50 amp, EMS-LCHW50C. Until you fry your RV 120 volt electrical system or appliances, you'll understand how important a surge & voltage system is. It protects your RV from not only surges but low and high voltage as well as polarity and ground problems from a shore power source.

Rick,
Don't know about your coach, but the Microwave in ours is powered through/from the inverter. It has its own breaker on the inverter.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. I haven't been been getting notifications.
Yes, the Microwave is working. Once power was restored it was fine. I'm going to run a few experiments on Friday. I'm going off shore power and run the gen-set as it would boon-docking. I will then be able to figure this microwave thing out. In regard to the inverter: By the time I tried it, the batteries had such little charge in them it wouldn't of worked even if it was supposed to. We only have a 1k watt inverter and I think it will power a few things, including the tv but not much else. Thanks for all the great responses. I'm going to write up what my system does and will post it here.

Rick,
Your 1000 watt inverter is wired to three outlets. The front and bedroom TV outlets and the ice maker outlet in the outside access panel to your refrigerator.

In other words, unless I need to make a margarita while dry camping and need ice, useless. seems it could of been used for something better than TV.

While you're doing all this testing, make sure the ckt. breakers on the generator itself are on.

Well I wasn't going to "all this testing" exactly. I did the one test. Gen on, shore power unlugged, microwave works, all this testing done. the 1000 watt inverter is a joke. The last thing I'd be wasting battery power on is the TV. Running an extension cord to the front passenger footwell 120v is also not in the plan to make a cup of coffee.
So I'm still wondering why the inverter is set up this way but won't give it to much of my time. It's time for happy hour,,,,no?
