Need an ABS vapor release cap

Behind some drawers and counter in the middle of our RV is the capped-off plumbing for the optional washer/dryer which we do not have. There is also a 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 inch ABS pipe that has a cap with a hole in it. ABS no doubt goes to the gray water tank.

There is grey water odor coming from inside the drawers when we open them and occasionally, all the time. Pretty sure odors are coming out of the cap and it probably has a thin rubber diaphragm that is supposed to flex and release built up pressure....occasionally.

Need a longer arm to try and remove the cap for inspection. Hopefully it is not glued in. Could not find a replacement cap on-line. Any suggestions?

About 10 years ago in our truck camper I dimly recall this same problem and ended up taping the ABS pipe cap 100% shut. Seemed to work OK.

Thank you

Problem solved. Got the drawer out. That was the hardest part. There is a white plastic tab on the right side of the drawer. Needed to press the side inward with a small pry bar to release, while pulling drawer out.

Took off cap. There is a spring and thin circular diaphragm. Seems to be stuck open as nothing moves up or down. Not getting a new one. Taped the two holes very well, applied pipe dope to threads and it is back in. Odor seems to be gone. Will know better tomorrow.

Pipe cap made by J+B Products in S. Bend, Ind. PRO-VENT PV 140. ABS-1. It is 1-1/2 inch, for anyone interested.

Just a suggestion, look for the same type valve under both your kitchen and bath sinks. If they both have the same valve you will be OK. If not the one you taped up may not allow one of the sinks or the shower to drain properly.

Well, that was a good suggestion. There was one under the kitchen sink and one under the bath sink. I could get to the bath sink cap OK and unscrew it. The spring/diaphragm did not seem to move any more than the one I taped over.

It is probably working, tho, as while I was looking at it........a strong grey water odor came out the open ABS.

Thank you for your post.
