Need help from Ford V10 people

I just bought my 2000 Tropi-Cal with a Ford V10, so I don't have any past history on this. When I drove it home it ran great until I was stopping to put gas in it. When at a stop taking off it seem to want to die out and surge until I got moving ~ 10 mph so I thought I would change the fuel filter. I took the engine cover off to release fuel pressure by the shader valve. That is when I noticed that it appear I have a missing piece at the base of the intake manifold on the passenger side. The piece on question is below the red wire.


Is this right? The piece that is open seems to be a port into the head.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to irv2 Ckerch.
Looks to me your have a small bolt missing to hold the plate and hose over the hole you see. Have you tried refastening with a bolt and maybe it will help solve your problem.

I am not sure what plate you are referring to. The top piece is part of the intake and the bottom piece shown to have shinny metal is part of the head. Neither on of them can be rotated to align up. Her is a closer shot of my problem


Do you have a picture of the piece or description of the piece you are talking about.

My 1999 Ford V10 is exactly like that. I think is supposed to be that way.

Looking at it I assumed something went over it since the aluminum isn't as dirty as the rest of the engine.

I have an 2006 V10, and I don't see anything resembeling that... Sorry.

Mine is also the same. Look closely at the hole and you will notice it is open underneath.

I see a hose attached to the metal elbow, where does the other end of that hose go or what is it attached to??

Added Note: I just went out and checked the same area on top of the engine in our 2000 coach and it looks the same with the exception no metal elbow with a hose attached.

As others mentioned, that's probably not causing your problem.

It is a water line going to the heater core.

Hi Carl, the hose to the heater core in our must come from a different location on the head or block, I didn't check for that on ours.

Strange in that the same year engine the heater hoses are in different locations, go figure--

That is normal, nothing missing. It is for money savings and part consolidation. The left and right intake gaskets are the same part number.
The passage is used on the front of the left head, but not needed on the rear of the right.

Ours is a 2000 it looks a little differen but that may the angle the photo was taken. However you can see the same vacant holes, funny I never noticed it before because all I was thinking "What kind of a demented moron designed this set up.
I think mine is the same

After looking at your second picture I have to agree with others it looks normal. Last of three V-10's I had was a 99 and they all had that setup.
Your fuel filter is probably your problem.
