Need overnight spot in Las Vegas, NM
Does anyone know of a good overnight spot in Las Vegas NM. We will be just stopping over night to sleep in the first week of March and I was wondering if I could get some ideas from people who have stayed in the area. Don't really need hookups, although electric would be nice.

Not trying to be a smarty pants, but is that Las Vegas NM or NV. Both exist . I can't provide a good site to help you, but maybe a google search might turn something up. Heck! I'm so much a google advocate I might vote for google on the next Presidential election. Google knows the answer to everything.

Passport America has a site Oasis rv park just off the strip for 35$ give or take I also saw people camping in some of the casino parking lots west of the strip last year this time.

There's a KOA in Las Vegas, New Mexico. I'm not a KOA fan but stay at them when nothing else is available. Sometimes they surprise me.

Here is the deal, we were going to try and make Las Vegas New Mexico the first night. But we wont be leaving our home until 2 in the afternoon and its about a 300 mile trip from out house going 1-25 out of Denver. Now I am thinking we wait until the next morning and leave early and try to make Albuquerque. We are going to Parker, AZ. and this is our very first long trip with the RV. I have read alot of post on here about getting to a overnight space before it gets dark. I looked at the KOA in Las Vegas, NM and it doesnt have very good reviews, but then most of them don't.

KOA Las Vegas
We have stayed at the KOA in Las Vegas, NM 3 different times. I agreee with others that we are not KOA fans either, but, the people here are really nice. KOA's tend to be pricey for what you get. If it is only one night what the heck! There is another park in town $25, but, we have never stayed there; Las Vegas RV & Storage 505-425-5640

Consider the time of the year it is. Sunset is a lot earlier still. I wouldn't be to apprehensive about setting up after the sun goes down. Just invest in a couple of hands free headband style flashlights. They're awesome for working in the dark and making camp. We've arrived at spots after dark and there's usually enough ambient light to get into your spot easilly and safely, especially if you get a pull through. If the light is low, a quick walk around with a flashlight is always a good idea.

I always stay at the WalMart on west end of town. Never had a problem. Most recent visit was late Dec,2012.

Just outside of town is a nice state park called Storrie Lake. It's convenient to town and much nicer than the RV parks I've seen in Las Vegas. It's on the northwest side of town on the highway going north to Mora. Probably 10 minutes north of the Walmart.
