No engine data

Finally found the diagnostic plug under the steering column of my 7370 Tradewinds 1998 with a Cat 3126, to use with VMSpc. Unfortunately there is no data coming from the plug. Has anyone else seen this problem??

Thanks, Kevin

There is a plug-in under there somewhere that the CAT Tech plugs his laptop into to query the ECM for data and enable/disable various functions, like "fast idle". However, it takes a special CAT software program to make it work. You might be plugged into that receptacle? Rook

Check to make sure the cable is plugged into the ECM at the engine.

What are you using to receive the data?
Laptop/tablet/iPad?
Is the VMSpc program downloaded on it.
If laptop what port is connected to the VMSpc output box?
To find out go to Advance...Communication.

Using a laptop with Vmspc installed. Brand new JIB from Silverleaf, it uses a USB connection. Keep getting an error that says something like "Not getting data from engine". The connection from the laptop to the JIB appears to be working as that error message is not present. If I disconnect the USB cable I get an error message about the JIB is not connected, so I assume the drivers, etc for the USB connection are working properly.

Guess I have to dig around the engine compartment and see if there is a connection to the ECM as was suggested. Wish there was a way to verify if there really is any data at the plug under the steering wheel. Plug is labeled DATA LINK, it has the four (out of six pins) connection it should. There is a good ground and +12v on two of the pins. The other two wires go to the correct pins in the plug for the data lines.

Looking at the wiring diagram it appears as if the data link also goes into the Allison shifter...with data to verify the gear currently in use. Wonder if I could tap into the data link there if I can find the correct wires???

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks, Kevin
