No power with gen running????

Fixing the bugs...We have a 99 Sea View that has around 50k miles on it that we just bought a week or so ago and have been cleaning and waxing and winterizing and changing fluids in and updating some decor and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning...
Anyway, in our cleaning we've noticed that because we don't have 50amp service to our RV pad next to the garage, we've been running the generator to vacuum etc. etc. and the GFI plug in the bathroom keeps tripping, and now we have no power with the generator running to anything...
Any suggestions on anything to look at replacing or looking for shorts or other various things that maybe not so obvious and might be "qwerky" to the National line or Sea View in specifics?????
I haven't replaced the GFI plug yet, I’m pretty sure its bad, the test/reset buttons on it don't switch over any longer... so...that will be my first fix...
I also noticed that none of the breakers anywhere else are tripped, just that GFI plug in the bathroom.
The generator is the Genrac(sp?) 5500, so there should be plenty of power to run a Kenmore Vacuum without blowing a circuit breaker on a GFI plug in the bathroom - nowhere near where we had the vac plugged in...
Any thoughts would be much appreciated...

Check on your generator there should be one or two circut brakers on the front, reset them even if not tripped.

That solved the problem the first time we fired up the beast, but it seems we are shorting something out which makes me a little edge-y because in looking for other issues we found mouse droppings... I'm afraid of what i find next now... Our excellent purchase may turn into something we didn't bargin for... But i'm not going there yet... As soon as I replace the GFI in the bathroom, which i've read in other posts can cause my problem, i'll see where we stand...
Thank you for that advice!!!
