Propane tank leaking at gauge

I have a leak at the gauge on the propane tank, right where it threads into the tank. The RV shops I've called say they don't work on propane tanks, and the propane gas suppliers I've called say they don't work on motorhomes.

I'd like to tackle it myself, but I understand that there are a couple different types of gauges... one of which you apparently need to have the tank vertical to remove the sending unit, which of course would mean removing the tank entirely.

Is there anyone here with a National of similar vintage (2004) who has some experience with the type of sending units and gauge in our propane tanks? I guess some have a magnetic pickup which does not require the tank to be in a vertical position to replace the gauge and sending unit.

Thanks!

In researching this further I see that there are not necessarily two types of sending units, and I was mixed up about the location of the magnets, so ignore part of what I said in my last post.

What I should have been asking is whether anyone here has replaced the sender on an AMSE-type (horizontal motorhome style) tank themselves?
