Rain on Camera Lens

I hope one some of you have an easy fix for my problem. While driving in the rain, droplets collect on the rear camera lens, in turn the picture is very distorted or impossible to use. The cover was removed to see if water was leaking into the lens and none was found, everything was tight. Other than using something like Rain-X is there some form of cover to mount to prevent rain and or over spray. I drive using the rearview camera along with the mirrors for lane changing. Backing up in the rain is a nightmare. We are leaving on a trip soon and my driving would be much more pleasant if rain restricted vision was not the dreaded.

Edited to say: The picture quality is good for B/W when it is not raining.

Rain-X would be my first suggestion. Does the camera have any overhanging shield now? they can sometimes cause a vortex that draws moisture onto the lens.

I have noticed this in the past, but have rarely driven in the rain. I also suggest RainX.

Why not cut just the right size/shape, clear plastic and attach to the top of your camera housing. It should jut out just enough to shield the rain.

Another vote for RainX.

My wipers once quit on me while on the road and an application of the stuff actually worked pretty well.

Had the same problem with my unit: Put a clear plastic shield on top of the camera. Used the screws on the camera to mount the sheild. Problem solved. It can rain all it wants, I get a clear view.

thank everyone for the replys...

fishchamp...Did you make the shield or buy it? Did you wrap the shield to the sides? Did you wrap the camera cover or just the lens? My fear of going around just the camera was blocking the side view and water infiltration.

attached are photos of my camera from the ground.

I use to have that problem. Turns out when I installed the Protect-a-Tow to protect my new Toad it also eliminated the water on my camera in rain. And the back of the MH now stays clean.

If you live in Georgia …you drive in the rain. If you have a mandatory camp ground evacuation because a hurricane changes course… you drive in the rain. But thanks for your knowledgeable input.

The glaze over the lens is an optional feature that normally has an additional fee.

I don't have protect a tow because it causes a vortex wind that swirls chunks of tire gatorskin that gets sucked forward to wear the trailing edge of my dually mud flaps. This, in turn, causes a spiral vortex up the rear of the coach that fogs the rear view camera lens.

A vicious circle.
