Refrigerator replacement

We have a 2004 National Dolphin LX. Has anyone replaced a Norcold model #1200 with a residential style refrigerator? If so, what make & model was used? Thank you!

I used a 15.5 cu ft with ice maker from Sears, Had to rebuild the cabinet and remove the fridge doors and the entrance door from the coach.
I have a 2002 Dolphin.

Refrigerator replacement

There are many threads on this but not all are in Nationals. You can search new Samsung Fridge on this Owners Forum. Some of us have done this it depends somewhat on what your goals in doing this are and what you are willing to possibly give up? The Samsung RF18 is the most popular and that is what a few of us with Dolphins have used, but there could be a height issue in your Dolphin. You can PM me if you would like and I'll give you my ph# and I can probably give you some tips on what to look for.

I replaced mine with the Samsung RF18 as well. It's a popular refrigerator based on Samsung's "inverter technology". It only draws 1.1 amps and suitable to run off the coach inverter while traveling or over-night. Perfect for dry camping!

FYI I recently PM the OP and he went with a different model other than the RF18, he didn't want to give up his furnace or do the relocation modification of the furnace.

Could you or the OP tell us what make and model was used? Also, if it is a direct fit replacement of the Norcold 1200. Thanks.

I installed a Samsung RF18HFENBSR.
There was a furnace and a bunch of wiring and plumbing under the old fridge that sitting the new one on the floor wasn't going to be easy.
I removed the furnace (never used it) and built a new platform 7 inches lower the the Norcold sat on. Now it looks like it's always been there and we have cold food. Ahhhhhh.

I am aware of the Samsung replacement, but requires the modification of the lower area with furnace. I am curios is someone found a direct replacement that you can still utilize the furnace with no need for modifications. Thanks again.

You may want to visit Samsung's website and do a little research. When I did the swap there was nothing with an ice maker that was a direct fit for the 1200. Ice was mandatory for me but the refer is 7 inches taller than the 1200 is.

There is a Fischer-Paykel french door fridge; counter depth, 67" tall. Over $2k at AJ Madison. Google it. Nice fridge. No, I don't have one.

I forget what he told me but it wasn't a magic replacement. Smaller narrower I believe. Many of us have researched so many units and some have similar issues likes and dislikes. I didn't want a narrower unit that may not have been counter depth but would have fit otherwise and then took a PSW inverter and maybe have been an issue getting in on top of it. So many factors play in. Look at Haier also I forget the specs on that but I did like the the flat doors with no big handles. It seemed very cheap when I looked at one. The Fischer Paykel probably the best for maybe being a slide in, but very expensive. Like I said so many factors to consider.

My approach to the inevitable refrigerator cooling unit failure may be to convert cooling unit to a compressor type system. Have already started collecting parts to do this. I prefer the existing 1292 Dometic for its' fit and access.

Removal of the cooling unit will free up space for compressor(s). While re purposing of existing hardware such as heat sinks and whatever.

I plan to have a mock up refrigerator working on the bench successfully and hopefully functioning before the original fails.
