RV Carfax Reporrts? 12 Volt issue with RV we are buying

Can anyone tell me if there are carfax reports for RV's? I'm concerned about the RV we are buying. THe owner seems legit. When we were looking at the RV, the generator had been running a while but when he pressed the system check button on the control panel, it indicated LOW battery. He said that wasn't right, so he brought it in for service and he told me that they replaced the converter. But when I spoke with him today, he said that it still wan't fixed and it was back in the shop for service. They told him that there was a short in the 12 volt system causing the breaker to trip on the converter. They couldn't find the short yesterday, but will be back at it on Monday. The owner said he has never had this problem. Obviously I'm concerned. I don't want an RV with electrical problems right out of the box. I thought a Carfax report might be prudent to see if there is any history of issues I should be aware of.

Put your VIN in the Carfax website and you'll know. I am pretty sure you can get one on an MH but not a trailer.

The Carfax probably won't give you any maintenance info but it will tell you how many owners it had and the mileage ploints. It will also tell you if it has been junked by insurance companies. (wrecked, flood damage, stolen, etc) SOME dealers will give you a copy of the report when you buy a used motorized vehicle.

As far as the DC volt problem just remove the DC fuses one my one until you find the defective circuit. Then troubleshoot from there.

Thanks I'll keep that troubleshooting tip in mind if the problem wind up in my lap. It is in a shop right now with the current owner footing the bill.

If your buying from an owner go ahead and get the VIN number and get the Carfax report while you wait. You might find out something even the owner does not know.

I've always gotten a carfax just for piece of mind. But I'm not sure it will tell you much about electrical issues, etc. But I liked knowing my motorhome hadn't been in major crash, etc., and seeing a registration/use pattern that confirmed the ownership elated to me.

What kinda shop replaces a converter or anything, for that matter, and doesn't check to see if it works or fixed the original problem. The manager, BBB or a local TV stations needs to hear about this.

From what I've read on this forum alone, there is far to much shoddy workmanship going on in the RV business. For the prices they charge compared to the automotive business, we should get equal of better service.

If we knew the tear and model you are looking at we could tell you how it is supposed to work.

I do! My sister and her brother are moving to your town in a few months. They say housing is very inexpensive compared to Colorado. How's the job market?

The trouble with Carfax is that it's completely voluntary so problems may never be entered and non chassis problems (wiring shorts in the house) would never get reported.
