Setting up our Mobile Office

We’re back at home base in CT for a few days. Packing up the MH with all the things we think we’ll need. I’m also installing all the gear we’ll need to be mobile with our office. Today’s project was finding a home for a wireless HP inkjet printer. The overhead storage cabinet over the passengers compartment, that is already wired for power for the video system, worked out to be a perfect fit!

Tomorrow is the install of a wifi router so that we can have a private, secure wireless network. Next week the heart of our wireless and mobile entertainment system should arrive ... a new Dell Inspiron Zino.

We'll likely be swapping out the Samsung TV with a 32" LED LCD TV and adding a digital Jack antenna to complete the upgrade to digital and HD.

Looks nice.

How are you going to get an internet connection? I am looking for a solution to that problem.

We've been using Verizon MiFi Hotspots for mobile internet access for nearly 2 years now. We haven't been too far off the beaten path yet, and we've had great success with connectivity while on the road. There have been many days and nights where we've been travelling in the car and the DW fires up her laptop, the 3G MiFi and watches the TV from our home - we each have a SlingBox at home so that we can record and watch our own shows from the road.

We've recently upgraded our DumbPhones to 2 new SmartPhones - Samsung Charge Android Phones - that run on the Verizon 4G LTE network. These phones offer USB tethering with a single PC and also have built in WiFi hotspots.

For the next month or so we'll have internet access via our Droid Charge's as well as our 3G MiFi hotspots. After that, we should have a good idea if the phones will provide the access we need and we can cancel the MiFi hotspots, or if we need to upgrade our 3G MiFi's to the 4G version.
