Step motor
The single kwikee step is finally going bad on my 1995 Dolphin 434. Does anyone have info on a replacement motor ?
The number I have for the motor 909520 does not come up in any search I have done. lots of motors are out there but with the age of my rv I cannot figure out what may be a good replacement
Any help will be most appreciated
Ron

Here is the Kwikee product service training manual, from which you can accurately identify your model step.
You can buy a generic motor from Amazon for about $40 if you're sure that's all you need; or you can buy the motor-gearbox assy all together.
You have what is called a pre-IMGL model. (that's explained in the manual)

Here's my Kwikee steps repair.
I tried repairing the motor, but advise against it as Amazon motors are cheap.

Pull your motor and test it with a battery charger, if it runs, its good. Reversing polarity reverses motor direction. If it runs your problem is probably a bad controller. Also check all connections for corrosion including both ground wires.
If the amber light is working when open door the door switch is good and controller is getting power.

I replaced my Kwikee step motor on my 2000 Tropical with one that was originally used on late 80s to mid 90s Ford Taurus power windows. Make sure to compare the old one to the new one since 2 different ones were used depending on which door they were uses on.

Our coach is 16 years old and we have replaced the step motor once and now our step controller failed, both were available at Amazon but could not find a cheaper replacement for the controller and stayed with lippert on the motor even though it was 4 times the price since the last one lasted 14 years..

I am still using my 1995 Kwikee motor.
I bought two replacement motors that did not solve the problem.
Then I cleaned the two ground wire attachments under the steps. Old motor started working again.

Thanks for all the info. My steps are working just fine now of course. Was always a once in awhile thing. Just unplugging the main plug and reconnecting usually worked. Our recent trip south it wouldn't work for a week. When we went to a different area and campground I managed to clip a tree branch ona narrow road. Knocked the mirror back but did not break anything. Hit the corner of the awning which bent the part that you move to pull the awning out then back up to retract but it's not broken. Did push the top section of the aluminum articulated cover back about 3'. With some WD40 and channel locks I was able to pull this back into the correct location. And the steps started to work and have continued to work since!

Just went thru this with my 99 Dolphin. Call Lippert (432-547-7378) tech support prompt for "Steps". The guy who answers is amazingly good.

When I read "going bad", that was my reaction.
The controller monitors voltage to determine when to shut off the motor, and when the mechanism is fully of grunge, the motor draws enough power that the controller thinks it has completed its task. For us, it showed up when retracting. The motor would stop with the step not fully closed.
If you wind up reconditioning your steps, Delcity.net has the 6x21" tread, with the glow in the dark line, for just $12.50 (half price). If you order, ask them to roll it, not fold it. The crease won't come out.

My motor / electrical connection is going bad. Has anyone removed the motor / gear assembly without removing the steps? I am just at the beginning of this journey and would like to plan ahead.
