Surge Protector

I'm considering adding an EMS-HW50C Surge/Voltage protector to my 2005 Sea Breeze LX 8321.

I located the ATS 5070 transfer switch but noticed that there is a junction box to the left of the ATS. Inside the junction box is a simple splice of wires. I checked the power running through the wires and found:
- when not plugged in to shore power & no generator, there is no power running through the wires.
- when plugged in to shore power, there is power running through the wires.
- when running the generator, there is power running through the wires.

Does anyone know why this junction box is there?

Would it be a simple matter to remove the junction box and place the EMS in that circuit? (One could only hope it would be so simple )

If you take the cover off the transfer switch, you can trace the wires to the junction box. It sounds like the wires in it are coming from the switch and going to the breaker panel. You can install a surge guard there and it will protect the coach from shore power and the generator, but the transfer switch will be unprotected.

If it were my coach, after verify the above, that's where I would put it.

I installed mine, by splicing it into the incoming shore line. It is mounted on the wall of the compartment, just to the Right of my Plumbing panel. Just measure the mounting location and gage where to splice in the protecttor. Mine has been in place five years. No Problems.
