Tow Bar removal
i was wondering how many of you remove your tow bar from the toad once
u get to the campsite and unhook from the rv? Or do u just leave the tow bar
attached to the toad and drive with the tow bar in place?
i can understand for convenience just leaving the tow bar on the vehicle but
it does add extra weight and is not as aestetic looking as without it on the
toad? again i guess if u remove it u would have to store the tow bar under
the motorhome?
just trying to find out what the norm is? thanks

I think you will find most have a motorhome mounted tow bar, leaving only the base plate / connection on the toad.
I used to have an A-frame tow bar that mounted to my Jeep. For short trips I would just tilt it up against the grill and secure with a bungee. Would remove it often. Was a pain the the butt... So got a motorhome mounted tow bar.

I had one of those "A" frame tow bars on a Jeep for over 10 years. Never removed it. Just tied it back against the hood (it had a locking pin too) and drove it like that. After a little while I paid no attention to it up there.
Many told me I'd get a ticket for leaving it on there but no LEOs ever said a word about it. Probably visited 40 states with it up there. I got so good at connecting it that I could drive the Jeep up behind the motorhome and the coupler would drop right down on the trailer hitch ball.
Easiest tow bar set up ever and it was only $150 to boot.

mine is a Roadmaster, that folds down. For two or three days I leave it. for a week I remove it and store in in a basement door, (where my satellite stays).. I worry about hitting another car in a parking lot with it on.

My Roadmaster is mounted on the MH and has a very strong padlock on it. I do remove the tow parts that are attached to the Base Plate on our CRV especially while traveling since they are easily removed and could be stolen easily.

That is a considerable amount of weight added in front of the front wheels. Do you have your car aligned with the tow bar on?
