Towing Capacity

I couldn't find any information, so I thought I'd ask here - I have a 1995 Dolphin 34DS w/Cummings 5.9 TA & Allison 6-speed in an Oshkosh chassis. Does anyone know my tow capacity? Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks so much for the info, but I'm still at a loss as how to figure towing capacity.

I have a Spartan chassis, I contacted the manufacturer with the vin number and they gave me all the info I needed for towing. Is that possible for Oshkosh?

The limiting factor for towing capacity is most often the transmission. If you have the Alison 2500 series tranny, then it's towing capacity is 5000 lbs.

Thanks so much DLindy. That is exactly what I was looking for! Unfortunately Oshkosh was bought out by Freightliner some years ago & they didn't retain any records.

The Alison 3000 series has a 10,000 lb towing capacity. Next thing then is to find the capacity of your hitch/frame set up.

I would think GCWR minus the loaded weight of the motorhome alone would yield the towing capacity. Obviously, you need to know the weight of the loaded motorhome. Alternately, you could use GCWR minus GVWR (assuming your motorhome is not loaded beyond GVWR).

Of course it would be further limited by the towing/tongue weight limits of the hitch itself which is usually on the hitch somewhere.

The transmission should be able to handle the full GCWR stated in the motorhome specs.
