While de-winterizing our MH, I decided to run the bleached water from the fresh water tank through the faucets. After bypassing the water heater, I turned on the pump and bathroom sink cold water. I noticed the pressure wasn't great, but more to the point, I noticed a waterfall coming from the rear 3 basement doors. Yikes

! Believing the winterizing went horribly wrong, I eventually found behind the set of dresser draws two valves, one of which was no longer attached to the water line - seems like a fitting failure. I suspect these lines were for the washing machine option - one that was neither ordered with this MH, nor will it ever be added.

So, assuming I have this right, I simply want to cap this line (see red x in photo) and call it it day. So my question is...does anyone know what is the diameter of this line, and is there any reason why I shouldn't go down this path? Thanks in advance!

I would tend to believe that the lack of A/F to the run of pex pipe in that area allowed ice to form and push the fitting off the elbow .

I would tend to trace the lines back to the next junction , and remove both lines and cap at that point , because if there was enough ice form to push the valve off the plastic tube could be cracked too.

These are standard household 1/2" pex tubes , you just have to be aware of the size of tool for the clamps and make sure the area your working in allows you to make the connection. Tools can be rented at builders and caps and clamps purchased there.

Thanks Skip. Was able to find a cap and did just what you suggested. Seems after 21 years of faithful service, there's a handful of other plumbing connections that are showing signs of age and in need of replacement. Maybe time to invest in PEX! Thanks again.

Invest in the Pex - Tool and Crimps or Just get the Couple Fittings you Need with Shark Bites - simple Easy.

They make just about everything ........and trust me they are easy, especially in a tight spot.

I've used both, pex if you have time and room, Shark Bite for that tight connection or just a couple of issues.
