What To Do

My 2001 Tradewinds has been sitting beside my house for about 5 years since she was out and about. Got new tires a few months ago and other then that she has just been sitting. What do you all suggest I do before we take her out on a trip for about a month. She has been sitting on her jacks so not to damage tires which are covered. The fuel tank is full, batteries have been on trickle charger.

Anyone done this before, any suggestions.

Let's start with environment where stored? What condition are the brakes in? Last time linkages and rods greased? Rust on the drums? Rust between the shoes and backing plates. 5-year-old fluids should all be checked or changed including engine coolant. 5-year-old fuel? Be sure towing plan is paid up. Belts and hoses? Maybe do a couple 50-to-100-mile trips before the big one.

Take it for a short trip tomorrow. And then another short trip every week until the big one. Never know what you'll turn up for problems. Stop, get out and walk around at 5,10,20,40 minutes. Look for leaks, and brake/hub temps.

As everyone else has said I personally would change all fluids before taking anywhere. Also was a preservative used in the fuel before storage? If not the potential for algae in the fuel or moisture as I'm not sure rather you have a diesel or gas motor is of concern. Also before letting down off jacks I would take a rag soaked with wd 40 or oil and wipe all of the exposable jack struts so as not to tear your seals in your jacks because of all the debris that is likely on the struts. Batteries are mopre than likely toast as well. Inspect al rubber hoses including radiator hoses for softness or dry rott

check the age of the batteries. if over 4-5 years, may be time to replace. check all belts and hoses for cracks and replace as needed. lubricate everything possible (slide outs, step, latches on the compartments and door latch), check/replace windshield wipers.
