Windshield Wipers Erratic

We have a 2005 Dolphin 6355 LX and the windshield wipers are either high speed or off and park where ever they please. You have to fiddle with the knob to get them in park. Need some ideas. Thanks. Ron

A lot of problems with windshield wiper functions is due to a loss of ground for the motor, it is trying to ground thru the switch. So do this test: make a ground wire and attach it to a metal part of the wiper motor and a good, clean chassis ground. If the problem goes away, make it a permanent fix.

Workhorse had a lot of problems with windshield wipers failing in hard rain. Ours went "wonkie", I dried the power connector, just before the motor, used electrical grease(dielectric), wrapped the connection in plastic. No More problems.

Tony, Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go and see what happens. Let you know how it turns out. Is Layton close to Hill AFB? I hauled a lot of freight out of there.

Fred, Thanks for your reply. I will check the connector and see what gives. Rain season is approaching. Time to tune things up.

Own a 2006 Dolphin and had same problem. check the mounting plate that the windshield motor attaches to and the surface that plate attaches to. The bolt that secured the motor to this grounding plate had broken. We drilled a couple of new holes and secured the motor plate to the grounding plate. Also we did tape up the wire connection also. Good luck.

Hi nanc, Thanks for the info. I will look at the mounting plate. Kind of working by feel as the motor is easy to see but hard to work on unless you have 6 feet long arms.

You want erratic? Used to drive several old Gillig school buses where I used to work and they had vacumn operated w/s wipers and that was a lot of fun. Run and stop, run and stop. really fun on a cold foggy wet morning.

Erratic windshield wipers

Hi Folks, Update on my problem. I disconnected the power cable to the motor and cleaned the connectors. No joy, so I make up a jumper cable and hooked from motor to chassi and still no luck, Also noted that the w/s washer doesn't work so there may be a problem in the wiring in the steering tunnel. We are about to start harvest and I am out of free time so about time to take the coach to my RV mechanic. Thanks for everyone's help and Happy Trails to you.
Regards, Ron
