2000 Tiffin Allegro Bus Towing

Hi, just joined this forum.. I have been reading a ton on here as I research older motor homes for purchase. Have some questions regarding tow rating I am hoping someone can help me with. I have read a lot of towing related threads and understand that the rating is the lesser of the hitch or the max loaded weight with trailer less gross vehicle weight. I am definitely looking for a RV with 10k tow rating and have come across something that seems strange..

I am looking at a 00 Allegro Bus 39c with cummins 330/ Allison trans. The owner says the hitch is a 10k. THis seems right compared to the other Cummins 330 powered RVs I have seen around this year. I am assuming it is a freightliner chassis, again I expect it to be 10k towing.

I just received a pic from owner and it shows the vehicle weights, 24k empty, 27k loaded, 32k total with trailer. These seem low for cummins 330/freightliner. I am hoping that this is a mistake as I like everything else about the rig. The owner is going to look for a DMV tag to see what weights are listed there. I have also reached out to Tiffin for 2000 year brochures so I can better understand the options that year, but they are closed holidays.

Does anybody here have a 2000 tiffin Allegro Bus 39c? What's your tow rating? Does 5k sound right?

Thank you for your help!

Welcome to iRV2

The difference between the listed GVWR and the GCWR, will be the tow weight rating. These numbers are on the vehicle weight sticker ; the sticker may be hidden ( mine is at the back of a kitchen cupboard), but it will be in the coach somewhere.

If you cannot find it then a call to the Freightliner free help line with the serial number will get you the info , including the hitch rating of the unit that was factory installed.

Here's a photo of the weight sticker.

NOTE to self: Re-read post before replying . The GVWR # and the GCWR # you list are identical to my 99 F/L chassis, and my tow rating is , 5,000 lbs. Sorry I've included so much extra info.
Many other coaches of this vintage with Cummins 330 HP, may be on Spartan chassis and those were rated for 10,000 lbs tow.
