2004 Tiffin Allegro 31DA Sub-Frame FAILURE
If you have an Allegro from this era, you should thoroughly inspect your sub-frame for similar issues.
I purchased this RV in January 2016. I am the 4th owner (not counting a dealer who flips). We have driven it 8000 miles.
Recently, I took the RV to FairwayRV in Placentia, CA for routine maintenance and slide adjustments. During the slide adjustment, the technician saw damage to the tubular sub-frame. While the RV was on the rack, I took some pictures of the damaged/broken weld joints. Some of those pictures are shown below.
I have also included one very crude drawing of what I supposed the frame alignment should be and how I supposed it left the factory. It is also my opinion (I am not a mechanic or welder by trade) that the sub-frame failure was due to misalignment of the sub-frame to the chassis frame supports, and that the RV should never have left the factory.
As you can see in the some of the pictures, the sub-frame riser/joint is not aligned with all of the L bracket supports that are welded to the chassis frame. Some locations appear to not have a required support bracket welded to the chassis frame at all (could be the camera angle). On the ones where the alignment is correct, the welds have held and the weight of the box is supported by the L brackets. On the ones that are not aligned, the sub-frame welds are broken because the weight of the box is not supported by the riser/joint correctly. You can see in a couple of pictures where the sub-frame is barely on the L brackets and the tubing on one side appears fine and on the un-supported side is broken. I hope that the drawing I included helps to illustrate the problem.
I currently have the RV at Redlands Truck and RV for repairs. It is costing a pretty penny.
